Church of S. Maria at Massarella

Although the parish church of Santa Maria is first mentioned in 998, the present aspect of the church dates back to the 17th century.  The only traces of the medieval church are two arches not visible from the nave and a fragment of architectural decoration now displayed in the Museo Civico e Diocesano.

At the end fo the XX century, the inner walls and vaults of the church were decorated by  Romano Stefanelli with large and extraordinary frescoes on the life of Christ: the Nativity, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.

Since 2021, in the lateral chapel the preparatory drawings, donated by the heirs of the artist, are displayed.
